EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Techniques, which is a therapeutic approach often referred to as “tapping.” It combines principles from traditional Chinese medicine, particularly acupuncture, with modern psychology. The technique is based on the idea that negative emotions and psychological issues can be addressed by tapping on specific points on the body while focusing on the emotional problem at hand.
Here’s how EFT typically works:
Identify the Issue: The first step is to identify the specific issue, emotion, or pain you want to address. This could be anything from anxiety, phobias, trauma, physical pain, or stress.
Rate the Intensity: Before starting the tapping process, you rate the intensity of your issue on a scale from 0 to 10. This helps to gauge progress as you go through the tapping sequence.
The Setup Statement: You create a setup statement that acknowledges the issue and accepts yourself despite it. For example, “Even though I have this anxiety, I deeply and completely accept myself.”
Tapping Sequence: You tap on specific acupressure points on your body (usually on the face and upper body) while repeating phrases related to the issue. The standard points are listed below.
Reassess the Intensity: After completing the tapping sequence, you take a moment to reassess the intensity of your issue, rating it again from 0 to 10. Ideally, you should notice a reduction in the intensity and it may have disappeared altogether, if not undertake another cycle i.e. three times.
It works by clearing blockages in the body’s energy system, which can contribute to emotional distress and physical symptoms. While some individuals report positive effects from using EFT, scientific evidence regarding its effectiveness is mixed, with more rigorous studies needed to validate its claims. Nonetheless, it is considered safe to practice and can be a helpful tool for managing stress and negative emotions. The tapping I am recommending is one that was channelled to me and point are slightly different from the one that is generally used.
Tapping Points: Essentially, you will be tapping at the following positions:
- The centre at the top of the forehead
- The brow
- The top lip
- The chin
- The heart centre
- The left wrist
- The right wrist
The needs to be repeated three times for each “set up statement” and undertaken for three days in a row. i.e. now to undertake each statement (see below examples) a total of 9 times (3 times for 3 days). Examples of set up statements are:
- Financial: I release all the financial energy blockages in me and open myself to financial abundance
- Physical Pain: I release all emotional based energy blockages in me that are causing me physical pain
- Relationships: I release all energy blockages in me that were created from my relationships with (state person)
